The McDonalds literary campaign.

11 Jan

In a stunning move the McDonald’s in the UK are giving out books with their Happy Meals, this campaign will last until early February. They will be handing out over 9 million copies of the Mudpuddle farm books and finger puppets to go along with them. Hopefully this campaign will take over and spread to the US, if any company can find a way to spark an interest in reading for kids it would be McDonald’s.

I was pretty shocked to hear about this too. People are still not happy that McDonald’s is serving up deep-fried goodness – I mean badness to children. They argue that now parents can reward reading with Happy Meals!

But I would have LOVED to have received a book with my Happy Meal when I was little. My parents never let me buy books (they prefer the library) so I treasured every book I owned.

On a side note – I heard that the Dukan diet guy approached McDonalds about a McDukan Burger. I can only imagine how horrible that might taste.

I remember the trips to the library. I used to max out my limit and have to use some of my mum’s!

I used to be so happy lugging my massive Tesco carrier bag of books back home!
