Officially Joining the World of Publishing.

23 Jan

I have recently set up an internship with Joggling Board Press, a small publishing company in the heart of South Carolina. They specialize mainly in works that promote southern history and culture. I honestly can’t wait to work for them, as they are also of the belief that there will always be room in this world for a well crafted high quality printed book. The only problem is I don’t start the internship until this summer, and thus have a few more months to wait.

Good luck, that sounds so interesting! You’ll have to talk more about it when you actually start working.

Thanks for the kind words. I’ll happily keep you updated about how it goes. On top of this I’m also starting to look at learning book binding, as e-readers continue to gain in popularity I figure the niche market for handmade books might also rise, as a form of protest.

First, congratulations on the internship. Second I think learning book binding is a great idea. I learned a bit in high school from my co-op teacher and if I had the time would certainly take it up as a hobby. I think there could definitely be a niche market for handmade books. I am one of those people who loves the idea of e-readers, but will always prefer having a printed book in my hands. Good luck!

There is a company that makes iPad cases using traditional bookbinding techniques, and it is doing very well. They are also determined to keep the art alive.

Many moons ago, I also worked in publishing. It’s an interesting life. I hope you make a success of it.
